Have You Ever Wondered?

Why it is that the friendly neighborhood ice cream truck is a piece of crap driven by a grubby looking man in his late 50's?

How is it that an ice cream truck gets so beaten up? I have yet to see suspicious looking parents with rocks behind their backs....

and why is it that they always come at dinner time......as a kid i wouldn't care that a drumstick is $3 from an icecream truck and a box of 4 from superstore is $6...i guess it is the excitement of being a kid and seeing/hearing the icecream truck come down your street

oddly enough, that grubby truck parks in the alley behind my place at night

Can you believe, 5 hours after I posted this blog, Ken and I saw an Ice Cream truck broken down on an on-ramp to the Second Narrows Bridge?! With a grubby looking man behind the wheel, of course!

for some reason i guess we have newer icecream truck over on the island...the big blue van that looks like an icecream wrapper, but yes we still have a grubby driver ...creepy....

HEY! I used to drive / peddle one of those Dickie-Dee ice cream bikes when I was younger!

Give those grubby guys a break--it's a tough, often humiliating job.

I can still hear the sing-song cries from those grubby little kids as I peddled my 130 lb bike away:

Stick yer ice cream.....
Up yer bum!

I've always thought those icecream trucks were a cover up to sell drugs LOL.

I don't think I've ever let my daughter buy icecream from one of those trucks...she's asked...but I just convince her with gelato. Now who can't be swayed with gelato? haha

I expect it's a low-paying business with little money for truck upkeep or better-groomed drivers. Although the pretty woman with two friendly dogs who came by our house JUST ONCE last summer in her freshly-painted ice cream van was a great relief from the usual tobacco-stained guy.

At least the ice cream is wrapped.

I wish the kind old guy who used to come around our neighbourhood (in a VW Bug with the cooler where the hood used to be) hadn't died almost 30 years ago...

I drive an Icecream truck and I don't think I am grubby. I don't shave everyday but I always wear clean clothes. Cindy is right even with a 300% markup the profit from one truck in only about $80 a day. Insurance is outrageous and add the steadily rising fuel prices it is almost not worth the time. The thing that keeps me going is the kids. You can't do this job unless you love kids. Well, some drivers love kids too much.
